I made it! Despite a knee injury, a sudden influx of blisters a few weeks back, and only having run 18 miles in training…. 2 months ago (timing has never been my strong point) …. I can finally say what I was seriously doubting I’d ever be able to – I ran the London marathon! I got round the course in 4.47.32. And while I’m not going to be setting any world records any time soon, that was good enough for me. Here’s what I learned about getting through 26.2 miles in one piece….

ELLIE GOULDING LAUNCHES NIKE +TC WORKOUT (FINALLY, THE SECRET TO THAT BOD)

Confession time – I have a massive girl crush on Ellie Goulding. It’s been a slow grower. Yes, I thought her first singles were catchy. But when I really started to pay attention to her was when she began talking in interviews about her passion for running and when her Instagram feed began filling with pictures of her doing everything from planks to monkey bars to boxing. She started talking fitness before it became cool to talk fitness. And it was around then that I thought she was a “pop star” with a lot more about her.

So imagine my delight when I got invited to a special event earlier this week to launch her brand new Tighten + Tone workout for the Nike + Training Club App.

MARATHON TRAINING DIARY #1: A SLOW START

A run in the Cotswolds. Three miles but looked like forever.

When I first got a place in this year’s London marathon I had such high hopes. I was going to strength train for the first few months to lay down strong foundations (like the pros) before emerging in Jan a lean, mean running machine ready to start smashing the miles. I was going to document my every run and kelp-infused protein shake with stylised Instagram snaps and witty one-liners. I was going to write a stream of blog posts so informative they’d go viral in Japan. I was going to obtain that other-worldly marathon runner air (think Cate Blanchett in Lord of the Rings if she was talking about split laps instead of orcs).
