Once upon a time, 6pm on Friday in London was time to down tools and head immediately to the pub. But something has changed – and it smells like lycra.
The new way to ease into the weekend is with a workout. Today marks the last of a series of #FitnessFriday events in St Martin’s Courtyard Covent Garden, where yoga studio Yotopia offers a free outdoor yoga sess at 6pm (pictured). Get down there early to beat the mass of keen yogis vying for space – 40+ people have packed out the small square in previous weeks. Over at nearby Good Vibes yoga studio, they hold a regular Friday Night Yoga Party – where you get your om on to pop music and finish with a glass of bubbly. (There’s one happening tonight at 6.45pm, costing £25, so book yourself in fast!) And it’s not just yoga. From zumba classes to the London Friday Night Skate – which sees a huge group of bladers meet at 8pm in Hyde Park every week – there are plenty of ways to roll into the weekend.
So if you’re wondering why it’s so easy to get to the bar these days, it’s because everyone else is secretly off working up a sweat. So swap your killer heels for your kicks. You can always celebrate with some fizz later.
